First Valentine's Day

I had such a great time with Kassie and her mom. Kassie is so put together for a girl her age. I casually asked if she knew where she was going to school next year. She rattled off what she wants to do with her life for the next 7-10 years. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life at her age. It is refreshing to see someone that knows what they want and is willing to do the hard work to get there. Kassie seems like such an amazing Christian girl. She is actively involved at school and has time to play multiple sports. She is a beautiful girl, both inside and out. I could also tell that Robin really loves Kassie. I know all mom's love their kids, but I loved that it oozed out of Robin. The pride in her voice when she spoke about Kassie was heartwarming. I pray I feel the same love and affection for my kids when they are that age. It was such a blessing to spend time with them.

I jokingly said to Kassie that we should take the "typical" senior portrait. Just for fun. You know the obviously posed one by the tree. She did it and completely made it look fabulous.
This one was my favorite (I had a bunch of them). She just looked stunning.

Exciting news...

No, I am not pregnant...but it is a boy!!!

Meet our new addition. We got him last night. He is adorable, simply adorable. We went to meet him at Hill Country Pugs. Kristy is amazing. We spent 3 hours with her and with Ritz (she was so patient with us). We met his mommy and his daddy. We wanted to make sure he was going to fit in with our family before we took him home. Kristy and Kevin show pugs, and the pups they don't keep go to pet homes. I was very impressed by her and the way they care for their little cuties. I am also thankful she allowed us to have one of her precious dogs, she is picky about the owners she selects.

We told the kids we were going to have an adventure and go meet some cute little puppies. I had bought a crate the day before just in case we took him home. We hid it under the blanket so there was so pressure from the kids to take little Ritz home if his disposition was not a good fit for our family or we weren't a good fit for him. O and A adored him from the very start of our visit. He is a perfect mix of energy and normal pug cuddling. Alex and I fell asleep with him on the couch with him last night. Those of you that know me I am not an animal lover per say, but I am in love with this little guy. Alex adores him too. He even took Ritz upstairs with him while we were gone and Ritz took a nap on Alex's lap while he worked. We have been trying to think of a new name for him and we are in between keeping the name Ritz, and O's name "Biscuit".

We have been thinking about a dog for some time. Our girls really are amazing with animals. Horses, cats, rabbits, donkeys and of course dogs. Any animals. Neither one of them have any fear of animals and really love them. We see something amazing in their spirits when they are with animals. I don't know how to describe it. We noticed it at my mom's farm and with my Dad and Michelle's dog Mac. We thought about small pets, had some fish that didn't work out (thanks Uncle Ryan), and ruled out a cat because you can't really choose a temperament, most are grouchy and independent. Anyhow, our kids are over the moon about little Ritz. I'll post some pictures with the kids and him later.

The pictures speak for themselves. How adorable is he? :)

Giving is Awesome

Chinell and I are humbled to have been able to be a part of this amazing opportunity. Thank you all for your support and love. The family we have chosen is incredible. The husband serves our wonderful country in the armed forces. He is in Iraq right now putting his life on the life for our nation. Mom stays at home with 4 kids. I can't even imagine trying to care for 4 kids on my own, dealing with the day to day stresses, and on top of that worrying about my husbands life on a daily basis.

Congratulations! Thank you for all you do to serve our country. We look forward to meeting you and taking pictures of your family!

The Y family was so much fun. Aimee's mom had won a mini-session at one of our open houses (an invitation only event-email to get on our list). She saved her session for them. They came all the way from Tennessee. The kids were so fun and energetic. As you can see they are very adorable kids! If you would join with me to pray for Aimee's stepfather. He is quite sick and could really use the prayers.I had a great time with you guys. I hope you have a wonderful trip home!

Kathy's mom was here for a visit and wanted to bless her family with some pictures. What a sweet mom! We had so much fun just running around and playing. Kathy and Joel are super fun people and were up for anything. Having 4 kids under the age of 5 1/2 is amazing, and Joel and Kathy work together so well as a team. It was wonderful seeing them interact with each other and the kids. The kiddos were very cooperative and full of energy. We even got Granna in on some pictures. Thanks for a great morning! 7 countries. 113 Photographers. Over $154,000 in photography. A huge thank you to Kristen Kalp for starting this amazing project and for helping us with words that express what we are trying to do (read: snag the words right from her website). What started with one photographer has given way to photographers from all over the world giving their passion to others. Chinell and I are thrilled to be a part of this.

Chinell and I tend to be behind the scenes givers and servers. We almost hesitated to be a part of this because we didn't want it to look like we are doing this for any other reason except to bless another family. That is our heart. Also, we can't really find a needy person without blogging it. It would be hard for people to nominate others if they didn't know about the giveaway. :)

Chinell and I are planning to give away over $1000 worth of photography services. Read on for the details.

You know someone we know it. You know someone who's experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. Someone serving our country, someone in the mission field home on furlough, someone struggling the best they can to provide for their family. Someone that serves others with their time and energy even if they can't afford to give money. You know someone who can't afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family's spirit, love, and beauty. We want to create pictures that make their heart happy every time they look at them.

The winning family gets a complimentary session for their children and/or immediate family with both Chinell and I, a 11x14 canvas wrap, 20-30 images (knowing us probably more) of their session on DVD, and a $250 print credit.

Amazing Photography Workshop

My inspiration comes from so many things. I love to see my Autumn playing with her doll or animal. My Olivia dancing around as a ballerina. I get inspiration from flowers, nature, old rusty looking doors, chipped stools, barns, lighting, animals...really from everything I encounter. I also get my inspiration from other photographers. Amazing Skye Hardwick from Work of Heart Photography was in town for a workshop I attended. It was beyond amazing. I learned new business type things, and she introduced me to some new vendors (more great things coming soon). She also talked to us a lot about inspiration. Her work inspires me within itself, but she shared so much about how to find my own inspiration from within. Did I mention how great it was? I really needed this workshop in my life, it was perfect timing with everything I have been going through in the past number of months.

We also had the time to do a photo session with about 16 different children. It was SO fun! You all know how much I love kids and it was so fun to get to know so many at one time and take their pictures. I will post some of my favorites over the next couple of days.

Newborn Isaiah

Back in August we did family and maternity pictures for a beautiful family who serves our country in the military and as civilian military support. Last week, I had the pleasure of photographing their newest edition.

Daddy flew home from Iraq in time for the birth, but he had to return within days after his son being born. This momma is not only Army strong, but Momma strong too...

Hey Daddy, I have a message for you!

He had other things on his mind besides getting his picture taken...

This is an example of me playing with selective coloring. I want to make it clear that this is not consistent with the normal style of photography editing we do. I am being a little edgy and playful. I have to be honest, Nicole, my business partner hates selective coloring and I like to play with edits a little too much.

Since M is wearing a blue sweater and she had a baby boy, I was being cheesy and selected the blue coloring and said: "It's a boy!"

Praying Mantis

I am not known for my love of insects, snakes or spiders of any kind. There are a couple insects which are okay, one of them is the praying mantis. They are just cool looking. The fact that they look like they are praying makes them a little more endearing then your average insect. We found one outside the other day. The girls had never seen one before. It was great. It looked right at me as though it knew I was admiring it.

Autumn's Birthday Cake-Humble Pie Desserts

My Autumn just celebrated her 2 year birthday before we left for Boston. She really wanted an E-I-E-I-O birthday party. Owning a local business myself, I always try to give my business to other local businesses or other businesses started by moms. I found a business card for Humble Pie Desserts at our local gymnastics place (where my 2 year old and I take a class together). I called Jeanna and told her what I was looking for. She mentioned something about cookies and frosting and I choose the cake type. I wasn't sure if she was talking about frosting regular animal crackers or what, but I just let her be creative and hoped for the best. When I saw the cake I almost cried. It was AMAZING. I even gave her a hug. I am sure she thought I had lost my mind as I had never met her before, but it was just more then I could have ever dreamed up in my mind. Not only did it look adorable, it tasted fabulous. Here are the pictures:

Peter

My stepfather Peter passed away 3 weeks ago. He is a wonderful man I have known since I was 4 years old. He was 48 years old. It has been a hard year for my family. Peter had been struggling with cancer for 8 months, had been in and out of the hospital almost weekly, he had lost 100 lbs and at one point had a tumor the size of a small watermelon removed from his abdomen This has been such a crazy and sad time for our family, especially my mom.

I have learned so many things through this. I have learned that life is too short to not do the things you want to do. I have learned life is too short to not enjoy each and every day. I have learned to tell the people you love by words and actions that they are loved. If you have someone you need to tell, don't wait, tomorrow is NOT guaranteed. Enjoy life and be blessed by the people around you. Bless others.

I also learned what love is. Love is taking care of your husband's every physical need, sitting by his bedside, hurting with him, encouraging him when you are dead tired, crying with him, laughing with him, sacrificing your needs to provide for all of his needs. This is love. Love is not just when life is great and things are going well, it is choosing to love during the hurt and heartache. In sickness AND in health has taken on new meaning for me. My mom showed me what love is. She has shown me what sickness AND in health means. I pray I can be half the woman she is someday. She is an amazing woman of God.

I feel so blessed to have had Peter in my life for the past 27 years. I may say he was my stepfather, but he was so much more then just that, so much more. He never treated me like his stepdaughter, nor referred to me as such. He treated me just as he treated my brother and sister...for better or for worse :) He will be very missed on earth, but as I tell Olivia (my 4 year old) we WILL see him in Heaven. He is waiting for us and is excited to see us again. We already have 2 friends in Heaven (GG and Jesus).

Thank you to the clients that have been VERY patient with me during this unexpected and sudden passing. A special thanks to Malissa and her family as this was right in the middle of her picture delivery time and they were all SO patient. Thank you for the encouraging emails and phone calls. You have really blessed me. Sorry to be so "heavy" on our photography blog, but as Chinell says "the emotions we express through words and photography are not just the happy ones". Here are a couple of my most favorite pictures of Peter. Of course they are the ones with my kids. Thank you for sharing in my journey.

Paige's First Day of School

Let me start off by saying I am not a morning person...at all. If you e-mail me at midnight, you will usually get a very quick response, mornings-not so much. I usually only book mornings if their is no other time we can work out, or if we want some amazing morning light.

My good friend Cat asked me to come over to document Paige's first day of school. I really love Cat and adore Paige so I agreed. It was really a great time. Paige was so excited and she looked so cute. Tony is such a great dad and took the entire day off. We got some great pictures and got to witness an amazing sunrise. I am not looking forward to next year when it is my turn to send Olivia to kindergarden. I was even teary on the way home for Cat and already for next year when Olivia goes full time to school. Lisa and I met a couple weeks ago at a local scrapbooking store. We hit it off right from the beginning. She is very fun and such a sweetheart. Richard was so great and seems so perfect for Lisa. They really seem to compliment each other. They wanted to get some professional shots for their business cards and some more relaxed pictures with their dogs, Boscoe and Baily. Two Adorable Girls - Austin Family Photographer

I made a new little friend tonight in D. She was so sweet and very friendly. She and I hit it off and had a great time together. Little H was adorable. We got a couple smiles from her, D helped with those, but most of the time she was very serious and just taking it all in. John and Kelli were awesome and John was such a great sport. You can see the love in their eyes for each other and for their kids.

My Little Dancer ~ Austin Children's Photography

I have two girls, they are 4 1/2 and almost 2. They are so fun and I just adore them. My oldest took ballet and tap lessons this year and had her recital in May. I am just now getting a chance to blog these precious pictures. She was so proud of herself for being so brave and dancing in front of everyone. It was so wonderful to watch her, it brought tears to my eyes. The last one was taken on our drive home. We stopped and got ice cream after the recital, she was so exhausted.

Rick was a big kid and I think he enjoyed blowing bubbles as much as the kids did. While Nicole was taking maternity pictures of Melinda, I took pictures of Rick playing with the kids.

Adventures in Killeen

Rick came home from Iraq last week for only a few short weeks. The sacrifice of all the men and women rebuilding Iraq is amazing. We are truly blessed to have people willing to serve our country and I am forever grateful.

Rick and Melinda are such a loving and fun couple. Chinell and I went up to Killeen for their session and went to the CTU campus. The kids loved the ducks and little Issac wanted to swim with them the whole session.

Little girls and little boys...such different personalities. One would look at the camera and smile and the other needed to be chased, coerced, and convinced that getting a picture taken was a fun thing...

It was a fun photo shoot, but as you can see Reece was a little more happy to be in front of the camera.

So this next pic shows a great expression of baby determination...I just need to edit the dog out of the picture (what do you think?).

Sorry readers--Chinell and I have been (obviously) out of pocket on the blogger lately. Chinell has been busy with her newborn, plus 2 other cute kiddos. Hopefully she will post some pictures of Princess P soon as she IS SO CUTE! Beautiful really.

I've been busy with family stuff. If you are the praying type, please be in prayer for my family as my step father has been diagniosed with a very aggressive cancer and is undergoing chemo. It has been a crazy couple months for Chinell and me.

I've been doing some shooting lately and can't wait to post the latest pictures! Also, we are about to unveil our new logo. We are so very excited to get a real logo!

Starting a business has been a little stressful, but so fun and very rewarding. It is not as easy as I thought it was going be, but it has been worth the hard work we have put into it. I have found through all this that I am so glad to be doing what I do. Taking pictures just simply makes my heart happy. It's a nice feeling.

little lance

Lance decided to make his grand entrance three weeks early. We did his newborn shoot on Tuesday around his actual due date. He was so sweet and was even up for a trip outside. It was so fun and Lance even changed around some of the poses, making them even cuter. The ring started out on his big toe, but he managed to get it on his pinky toe. It was very funny and so cute. Mamarazzi School

Last week I went to an all day photography school to learned to take better pictures. It was so good. Mamarazzi School was designed by Sarah and Jennifer and it is for Mom's that want to take better pictures. I was hoping it would be a good intensive program and it was everything I was hoping it would be. Sarah and Jennifer were humble, sweet and very good at explaining everything in a way that was not too overwhelming. I have already been chasing the kids around the house with my camera and snapping pictures of my husband while he works (he really appreciates that).

If you are in the Austin area (or even if you are not) I highly recommend taking a class from these ladies. I am even mentioned in their blog :)

Chinell

My partner Chinell is expecting in the next couple of weeks. She looks amazing and VERY cute pregnant. Her husband LOVED being in the pictures. He was so excited (okay, so I am lying, but he indulged us). Lou and Rae are precious. I love them so much. I am blessed Chinell and I share the love and passion for photography. We are kindred spirits in so many ways. She is one of the most giving people I know and I am blessed to call her friend. Here are some pictures from our shoot.

Beautiful Ashton

Ashton is one of the sweetest, kindest girls I know, and she is SO fun! She has done some babysitting for us before (I don't trust very many people to do that) and my kids adore her. Her family is wonderful as well. I had such a fun time with her yesterday. Here are some shots of her all dolled up in her beautiful junior prom dress. Thanks Ashton for such a fun time and indulging the park idea. :)

Paige

It was great to get to take some pictures of Paige. She is such a funny girl. She tells the best jokes. It is amazing to me that she knows exactly how to deliver them at 5 years old. She has better delivery then most adults. She cracked me up. Paige is also the most literal person I have ever met. I told her we were going to just take 5 more pictures and as soon as I clicked the shutter button, she said "1"...she was counting as I clicked. Crazy kid. I knew the last 5 pictures better be good because that was all I was getting. :) We had a great time and notice her eyes...they are so beautiful.

I believe that babies are all miracles. God's process is just amazing if you think about it. Paige is beyond the miracle of birth and her story is amazing. Paige was born with Mosaic Trisomy 16 a genetic Chromosome disorder. You can read her story here.

Nicole and I have been working very hard on getting our business up and running and we finally feel official because our website is up and looking good and we have a plethora of business cards. I have to give more kudos to Nicole for the many sleepless nights she has spent working on the website when I decided take my huge pregnant self to bed. We have spent many late night instant messaging and suddenly I am off to bed and she is working away. She is such and awesome friend and business partner.

We have been working hard to get things going. We've ordered business cards, which are very cute (a big thank you to my father in law at Treaty Oak Press). Our labels are in and we are working hard to get our new website up and ready for viewing. We will let you know when everything is ready to go. Its not a good post without a picture. The Texas bluebonnet season is approaching...

Busy

Chinell and I have been very busy lately, hence the lack of posting. We decided our business name recently and have been moving along with our website. We narrowed the name choice down to two names we both liked. We wanted to go with a more fun, more family focused name, instead of a more sentimental name. We wanted to describe the type of fun and exciting pictures we were going to take :) We are so excited about the name Cutie Pie Photography. Starting a new business is very time consuming, but lots of fun. We should be finalizing our website URL and will keep you posted when it is live. Thanks for your continued support.

Chinell and I had the joy of photographing Hannah and Ian this past weekend. They were a little shy at first, but quickly warmed up to us. They were so fun. Hannah loved getting her picture taken and was a real natural for the camera. You could see the love between two of them, it warmed my heart to see them hug and love each other. McGuire Girls

While I was home visiting my family I was able to take some pictures of my friend Leah and her daughters. Leah has been a family friend of mine (and my family) for over 15 years. She has seen me get married and helped with my wedding, we have worshipped together, she has loved and cared for my family during hard times, I have seen her husband come to Christ, and remember playing with her older daughters when I was young. Leah and Terry have 3 beautiful daughters. Gorgeous girls. Love you guys. Here is a sneak peek:

Photography Playdate

So Nicole and I took the kids out to take pictures and look for fun places to do location shots. We were very excited to find a few good outdoor spots. We took the kids with us, and my 3 year old, Amber, decided she was going to be in a grouchy mood and take a fall and hurt her tooth and chin. Nicole was very patient with Amber and I was very thankful for that! Here are a couple of shots from that fun day.
